All the great philosophers from Plato to Nietzsche, all the great theologians from St. Augustine to Bonhoeffer, all of the great poets, and, of course, all of the great composers were agreed: music is more than entertainment. It is an intellectual and spiritual force at the very center of our lives. On behalf of the Board of Directors and players of the Manitowoc Symphony, I would like to welcome you to our fifty-seventh season of life-affirming journeys through the finest in classical music.
Our itinerary has selections to captivate the senses, stimulate the mind, and refresh the spirit. From the heroic grandeur of Beethoven to the dancing intricacy of Bach, from the rhythmic vitality of Dvorak to the solemn grandeur of Franck, our season is a cornucopia overflowing with passion, power and…Pops! For the first time in many years, we will close our season with a Pops Concert, featuring the youthful exuberance of The Naturals.
You’ll be thrilled by the experience and skill of our soloists Lee Lane and Laura Kenney Henckel. And if the four concerts offered in our season ticket package are not enough, we are also pleased to present the return of Handel’s “Messiah” at Saint Peter the Fisherman Roman Catholic Church in Two Rivers.
The symphony orchestra embodies the highest values of our society and the literature of classical music is one of the greatest achievements of our culture. In these times of challenge and ceaseless change, we are grateful that you have chosen to join with us to conserve, support, and celebrate this priceless heritage.
Musically yours,
Wayne Wildman
