Laura Kenney has a Bachelor’s and Master’s of Music degrees in cello performance from the University of Michigan. Ms. Kenney has been featured as soloist with the Adrian (MI) Symphony, Green Bay Civic Symphony, and the Fox Valley Symphony in Appleton, WI, where she is at present is Principal Cellist. In addition, Ms. Kenney is currently Principal Cellist of the Green Bay and Manitowoc Symphony Orchestras.
Ms. Kenney has performed with professional productions at the Wiedner Center for the Performing Arts and performs regularly at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center with such notables as Judy Collins, Bernadette Peters, Kathy Rigby, and Robert Goulet. Ms. Kenney has held posts as Principal Cellist with the Adrian Symphony Orchestra, the Green Bay Civic Symphony, and numerous chamber ensembles. Ms Kenney is also on the faculty of the Lawrence Academy of Music as String Specialist in Cello; she maintains a home studio of both piano and cello students.
Ms. Kenney maintains a rigorous performance schedule in a duo with her mother as her pianist. The mother-daughter duo has performed in concerts throughout the United States and has given frequent benefit concerts for charitable organizations. These have included the Lake County Youth Orchestras in Grayslake, IL, the Alder Cultural Center in Libertyville, IL, and the Kobe Earthquake Relief Fund in Portland, OR, as well as performances in British Columbia and Indianapolis, IN. Ms. Kenney is also an active chamber musician, performing with the Wausau Conservatory faculty and, most recently, with the Northshore Quartet. The Northshore Quartet has performed for several music series, including the Manitowoc Chamber Music Series, Strings on the Bay in Escanaba, MI, and the Community Concert Committee’s Summer Chamber Series in Manistique, MI. The quartet performed its inaugural concert in 2005 and also joined with the Finn Grand Fest Orchestra as part of the International Finn Fest in Marquette, MI at the time of its Chamber Music Series. Most recently, the quartet performed as guest artists at the Three Lakes Music Series.
In addition to keeping a busy performance schedule, Ms. Kenney lives in Appleton with her husband, Principal Trumpeter Michael Henckel, and their three children, Kayla, Dylan, and Nolan.
